I started photographing Paterson, New Jersey in 2003. In the last 40 years Paterson has digressed from a booming industrial city to a grimy ghetto gripped by drugs, gang violence and poverty. I spent a year and half alongside a small group of people that I met on Market Street, a main thoroughfare, photographing their daily hardship.
